Men's College Scholarship

The Bergen County Association of School Security Professionals Scholarship
Deadline - April 1 , 2025
Scholarship candidates will be ones who are in the last year of high school, looking to pursue a career in education and/or law enforcement. Candidates will be recommended by the Association member employed by, or representing their school. Candidates will draft a short essay as to why they are pursuing their career choice, and how they believe school security will be important to that choice. The essays will be reviewed by, and a vote taken of, the executive board of the Association and scholarship committee.
The scholarship recipient will be asked to provide a copy of his/her/their letter of acceptance to a school of higher education, along with a receipt of tuition payment, prior to receiving the check. A check for the scholarship amount will then be mailed to the current address they provided.
Relatives of executive board members and committee members of The Association will not be eligible to receive any monetary scholarship from the Association. Since the majority of the Association members work in school districts, and this is the pool of scholarship applicants, an Association member and/or executive board member will not be allowed to review, comment on, or rank an essay submitted by a student in their respective district. As the essays are ranked, and the finalists selected, members on the committee will be required to abstain from voting for any student from their respective school.

The Bergen County Curriculum Consortium (BCCC) is offering three (3) $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in Bergen County. These scholarships are awarded as follows:

To be eligible, the student must be a graduating high school senior and the child of an active, retired or deceased Bergen County law enforcement officer, fire fighter or ambulance corps member. This includes: FBI, DEA, ATF, NJ State Police, Palisade Interstate Commission Police, Port Authority Police, Prosecutor's Office, and Sheriff's Office who work in Bergen County. This award will be given to a graduating senior who is interested in majoring in Special Education or a related service. The student must be a participant of the Hand-in Hand Club for at least the last 2 years, and be attending a school with the intention of majoring in the field of Special Education or a related service such as Speech, Occupational, Behavioral Therapy, School Psychology, Social Work, etc.
An essay will be required. The essay should be one page double spaced, and should include why you are choosing this field of study. Please put your name on the top of the essay along with your Student ID and email your essay to kohler@nvnet.org with Aspiring Special Educator Application in the subject line, no later than May 1, 2025.
Closter Lions Edward T. Rogan Scholarship Fund

The Closter Lions Club is offering a $1000 scholarship in memory of Edward T. Rogan who was a lifelong resident of Closter. He held positions as Closter Borough Attorney, Councilman and was one of Bergen County's youngest mayors. Edward Rogan was Closter Lion's Club president as well as a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary's church. This scholarship will be awarded to a student that best combines academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community and social service. Special consideration will be given to students pursuing a Political Science Major and intend to apply to law school.
